During a losing streak

Lesson 4.3 showed it: a losing streak will come, even with a good success rate. What matters is what you do during it. This is when the biases from module 3 are strongest, and when rules written with a cool head really prove their worth.

Part 1

Five rules that do not change

1The stake does not change. You keep the unit set in advance. Raising the stake to “win it back” is chasing your losses (module 3).
2The method does not change in the heat of a loss. A run of 5 losses at a 60 % success rate is normal (lesson 4.3). A method is judged over hundreds of bets.
3You take a break if the streak weighs on your mood or your sleep, and you talk about it (part 3).
4The bankroll is not topped up during a losing streak (lesson 4.1).
5The site's limits stay in place. An increase may be subject to a waiting period depending on the country and operator: time to think it over (lesson 3.3).
Part 2 · Your turn

What do you do?

Five situations, one at a time. Choose what you would do.

Part 3 · For yourself

When to take a break

Tick what is happening to you right now. Nothing is saved or sent.

Nothing ticked: keep following your rules.

Key points

  • During a streak, nothing moves: not the stake, not the method, not the bankroll, not the limits.
  • A break is not a failure. It is one more rule, and often the best one.
  • If the streak weighs on your life, talk about it: contact the gambling support service in your country (see the box, lesson 3.5).
